How to Troubleshoot in case your computer has crashed

Users came across many issues with their computer due to some hardware or software problems as a result of which sometimes the system shows error messages and restart without showing any warning. In some cases the system automatically shut down or gives you just a blue screen displaying some error messages.

Test with event viewer

  • Event viewer is a unique tool that comes preinstalled with Windows operating system. By opening this program you can restore the sequence of events that occurred just before the system crashed.
  • To open this programs follow the steps shown below
  • Go to the Start menu and Click on control panel
  • In control panel, Click on system
  • Then Go to Administrative and Click on Event viewer
  • Select Window logs and Click on tab system
  • Find out the error symbols against any of the programs.
  • Reinstall or perform a repair installation of the relevant program to fix the error.

Hardware check

If you find that there is no issue with the software programs then there might be a problem with the hardware.

In order to check the hardware issue

  1. Go the start menu and click on Run
  2. Type devmgmt.msc and click OK

After this device manager window will open. Check the status of various hardware devices attached with the computer and if there is any error related to any of the hardware device. Reconnect them and reinstall the drivers.

  1. Clean the tower fans. To do this open the tower and clean the fans.
  2. If your fan is not working, it could result in overheating of the CPU as a result the operating system shut down. Therefore clean it properly.
